Care for Wild US

Connecting the world

Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary (US) is committed to saving endangered species in Southern Africa, in particular the orphaned black and white rhino babies that are rescued and rehabilitated by Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary NPC. We do this through donations, fundraising events and by publicising the plight of the rhino and other species pushed to the point of extinction by the barbaric poaching that takes place to satisfy the greed and ignorance of those that consume the resulting “products”.

Care for Wild is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the USA. Any charitable donations and contributions to CFWRS are deductible for U.S. Income Tax purposes, to the extent allowed by the law.

Michael Halberstadt

Michael Halberstadt, graduated from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1975 with an MBA in Finance and Accounting. After spending 12 years in the corporate sector, Michael moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to start his own tax and financial advisory business.

Now, after 34 years, Michael is looking forward to winding down and spending more time enjoying his favorite hobbies, duplicate bridge, and lawn bowling. He is also thrilled to be joining the Care for Wild organization so he can pursue his other passion, making a difference for wild animals who can’t protect themselves against poachers and other human predators. He is also thrilled for the opportunity to reconnect to his birth country of South Africa, after emigrating to the USA some 56 years ago.

In his role as Controller, Michael will work closely with President, Jim Roth, to ensure Care for Wild USA’s accurate and transparent financial statements, tax filings and reporting to our Headquarters “Crash” in South Africa.

kevin mathews care for wild

Kevin Mathews

Kevin Matthews is the Founder and President of Noble Accounting, LLC. Kevin started his career in England where, after spending 2 years as an auditor, he transitioned to working in the finance department of a hospital where he held several positions and worked in both the financial accounting and management accounting departments.

After moving to the US in 1999 and a brief stint in the transportation and technology sectors, Kevin returned to the nonprofit world in 2001. For the first 5 years he was an in-house CFO before taking a new CFO position and retaining the first organization on a consultant CFO basis. After another 5 years, Kevin joined an accounting firm as a partner, and both of his former organizations became clients of that firm. When he formed Noble, both clients followed him again. As the CFO of multiple organizations for more than 19 years, Kevin has a deep and broad knowledge of the nonprofit sector and has done everything from basic accounting tasks to being a member of the executive team creating a strategic vision.

In England Kevin qualified as a Certified Accounting Technician before going on to become a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants, an international accountancy qualification equivalent to the US CPA. Kevin is also a Certified Fraud Examiner, a US qualification that he obtained after sadly realizing that nonprofit organizations are the victims of fraud on a disproportionate basis.

Kevin and Noble Accounting, LLC will now provide their independent accounting services and expertise on accounting, bookkeeping, finances, and fraud prevention to Care for Wild and its board of directors.
