BLACK RHINOS RELEASED INTO NEW IPZ
Black rhinos Odin and Marcules have been released into their new Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ).
A fantastic team including Dr Albertus Coetzee, Dr Marcus Hoffmeyer and the MTPA joined us in the relocating of these two very important rhinos. Arriving at the sanctuary as orphans, they have moved through the rehabilitation phases and have finally moved out into the reintroduction zone.
Working alongside with community members, we will continue to care for and keep these rhinos safe
‘I AM, BECAUSE WE ARE’
UPDATE ON ARTHUR THE BRAVE RHINO
Arthur arrived at the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary following the murder of his mother and a machete attack to his spine and foot. Despite his traumatic beginning, little Arthur is a ray of sunshine and extremely playful.
Arthur is getting big now and continues to do well in his rehabilitation journey. Little Arthur is now weighing 325kg! He has gained a whopping 9kg in just one week. We are so proud of how far Little Arthur has come!
SECURITY & PROTECTION
Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary not only rescues, rehabilitates and releases orphaned rhinos, but also ensures their safety and security throughout their lives. Security is a major part in ensuring the survival of this iconic species.
The CFWRS Anti-Poaching K9 unit is a close-knit team made up of an excellently trained dog and his handler. Their bond is incredible. Every day and every night, the team patrols the entire Sanctuary to ensure the safety of the orphaned rhinos.
We are extremely grateful to have such a dedicated and highly trained Anti-Poaching Division with strong and sharp canines that are always ready to apprehend any threat to its handler or the rhinos.
Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary Anti-Poaching Mounted Unit
The CFWRS Mounted Unit is an integral part of the anti-poaching team working to keep the rhinos safe. Alongside caring for the horses, the mounted unit train daily. Selection process is tough and they must continually refine their skills and ensure that they are at the peak of physical fitness.
In conjunction with the rhino monitors, armed response unit and canine unit, our teams work around the clock ensuring the rhinos remain safe and can live without fear.

Farming for a Greener Future
The rains have arrived and planting season is upon us.
We are working closely with our local community on a number of sustainable projects initiated by the sanctuary, the latest of which is a new vegetable garden. Still in its early stages at present, staff are working within the community to provide fencing, equipment and advise as the veggie garden starts to take shape.
Dermot Kavanagh from Veterans for Wildlife and Phoebe Abrahams , an ex-volunteer at CFWRS, recently visited St. Mary’s School in Twickenham UK.
Dermot and Phoebe spoke about the plight of our rhino, poaching stats and the important work that communities are doing to help save this precious species. They also spoke about how important it is to share these issues at home, spread the word and support the cause.
Thank you to Dermot from Veterans for Wildlife, Phoebe and St. Mary’s School for joining us in the fight against rhino poaching.
The purpose of the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary Grocery Market is to provide assistance to the rhino orphans that are in our care.
The Market allows our supporters the opportunity of helping us care for orphaned rhinos. Supporters are able to go online and purchase much needed items for the orphans. Once purchased, the items are then delivered to the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary.
Thank you to everyone that continues to support us through our Grocery Market. Your contributions really do make a huge difference!
