Tyson arrived at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary in October 2014. His mother was poached in the Kruger National Park.
Even though Tyson had been alone in the bush for a few days, he was in relatively good condition when he arrived at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary.
He became energetic and difficult to manage as soon we introduced him into his enclosure. There he met some of the other orphaned rhinos, namely, River, Thor, Mabush, Wyntir and Tana.
Tyson was and still is a very dominant rhino bull, often play-fighting with Mabush, thus earning the name Tyson. After the rhinos established their places in their hierarchy, they all settled down and live in harmony with each other. Tyson is a very loving rhino and affectionate to his caretakers.
He shared his enclosure with River and Thor, before Annie and some of the other orphans were added to the group. Tyson has grown especially close to River, who is now his best friend.
During the day, he enjoys being out in a large camp where he is free to graze and nap under the trees with River and the other orphans.
In the evenings, Tyson enjoys a mudbath to cool down after a long hot day before settling in for the night in a comfortable and spacious night room.
