CARE for WILD AFRICA represents the tremendous effort of one courageous lady, who, with more than 18 years of experience in the care and conservation of wild animals, has now ventured out on her own to continue her quest to ensure that wild animals will continue to roam proudly and freely in Africa’s majestic landscapes.
Petronel Nieuwoudt started her career in the Endangered Species Protection Unit (Specialized Unit of the Police) and held the rank as a captain. In 1999 she left the police service and started The Game Capture School.
Having run The Game Capture School for ten years, which was the first comprehensive school in South Africa to offer courses that focused on the theoretical and practical aspects of all forms of wildlife capture and care, Petronel has formed CARE for WILD AFRICA in the scenic area of Barberton - just outside Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.

hand rearing, handling and rehabilitation of wild animals.
These courses are ideally suited for those who work with and love animals – wildlife students , vet nurses, wildlife professionals, animal keepers, etc.
You have the opportunity to attend one of our courses or you could experience the adventure of a life time when you volunteer at our wildlife centre and learn, first hand, how to care for Africa’s proud wildlife species. Care for Wild is also involved with a few other conservation projects such as a buffalo project and, at the moment, is developing the wildlife centre as the only “green” rehab project in South Africa.
