5-DAY COURSE OVERVIEW
DAY ONE
 -  Short registration
 -  Welfare of Sable, Roan and Buffalo
 -  Safety during capture – a practical exercise (monitoring of your animal)
 - Equipment and products (vitamins, vaccines, minerals, wound management)

DAY TWO
 - Management of the capture event (it is all about planning)
 - Stress and stress management
 - Emergency procedures until vet arrives
 - Horn measurements

DAY THREE
 - Wildlife diseases, parasites, toxins and the management/treatment thereof
 - Post Mortem Species: Description, dynamics, habitat and activity, age, intensive production,
 -  Species: Description, dynamics, habitat and activity, age, intensive production

DAY FOUR
 -  Wildlife DNA – the role of applied genetics and forensic testing in Africa’s wildlife
 - Wildlife breeders (economics/personal experience of the industry)
 - Nutrition (boma and field)
 - Insurance, auctions, etc

DAY FIVE
 - Visiting of camp and boma system

 - Wildlife breeders (economics/personal experience of the industry)
 - Hand rearing principles.

Sable Roan and Colour Variants Course with Care for Wild Africa

COURSE OBJECTIVE
To teach you the background, facts and science of intensive wildlife production.  Intensive lectures and extensive practical, hands-on sessions contribute to the success of this course.
TOPICS COVERED
Each topic will be dealt with in detail by experts in their field.

    • Managing the capture event
    • Human first aid during chemical capture
    • Monitoring of the captured animal
    • Herd management (social structure) and monitoring
    • Identification, reduction and handling of stress during and after capture, holding facilities
    • Loading, transportation and off-loading
    • The genetics and principles of intensive prime stock breeding (age determination, horn development, etc)
    • Diseases and parasites and their control
    • Herd nutrition
    • Holding bomas and fencing, breeding camp systems
    • Trauma and Rearing of young
    • The business of intensive animal breeding
    • The secrets of wildlife production
    • Legal aspects (permits, buying and selling contracts, buffalo policy, insurance)
    • Mortalities and capture-related deaths.
